Motor burnout is common in daily life, and the most effective preventive measure to avoid motor burnout is to carry out correct technical maintenance.

There are six main maintenance methods, and Gao Tong will briefly introduce them as follows:

1Regularly maintain the cleanliness of the electric motor

During the operation of the electric motor, it is necessary to regularly maintain the cleanliness of the air inlet.

At least around the air inlet3mDust, water stains, oil stains, and other debris are not allowed inside to prevent them from being sucked into the motor.

If these dust, oil, and water are sucked into the interior of the motor, they will form a short-circuit medium, damage the insulation layer of the wire, cause inter turn short circuit, increase current, and temperature, and burn out the motor.

So it is necessary to ensure that the motor has sufficient insulation resistance and a good ventilation and cooling environment in order to maintain a safe and stable state of operation for a long time.

2Working at rated load

The main reason for the overload operation of the electric motor is due to excessive dragging load, low voltage, or mechanical jamming caused by the driving force.

When the motor operates under overload, it will cause a decrease in motor speed, an increase in current, an increase in temperature, and overheating of the winding coils.

If the motor is overloaded for a long time, its insulation will age and fail at high temperatures, leading to burnout. This is the main reason for the burnout of the motor.

Therefore, during the operation of the electric motor, it is important to regularly check whether the transmission device operates flexibly and reliably. The tightness of the transmission belt and the coaxiality of the coupling should be checked and adjusted at any time. If any jamming phenomenon is found, the machine should be stopped immediately to identify the cause and eliminate the fault before running.

3The three-phase current must be balanced

For three-phase asynchronous motors, the difference between the average current of any phase and the average current of the other two phases in their three-phase currents is not allowed to exceed10%,To ensure the safe and normal operation of the motor.

If the current value of one phase exceeds the specified limit compared to the average current value of the other two phases, it indicates that the motor has a fault. The cause must be identified and the fault must be eliminated before continuing to operate, otherwise an accident of burning the motor may occur.

4Maintain normal temperature

Regularly check the temperature of the bearings, stator, casing and other parts of the motor for abnormalities, especially for motors without voltage, current and frequency monitoring facilities and overload protection facilities, temperature rise monitoring is particularly important.

If the temperature rise near the bearing is found to be too high, the machine should be stopped immediately to check if the bearing is damaged or lacking oil. If the bearing is damaged, it should be replaced with a new one before operation. If the bearing is out of oil, lubricating grease should be added, otherwise the bearing will be further damaged and cause collapse, resulting in cleaning and burning of the motor.

5Observe for vibration, noise, and abnormal odors

If the electric motor vibrates, it will cause an increase in the different axes of the connected machinery, resulting in an increase in the motor load, current, and temperature, leading to the burning of the motor. Therefore, during the operation of the electric motor, it is necessary to regularly check whether the anchor bolts, motor end caps, bearing covers, etc. are loose, and whether the connecting devices are reliable. If any problems are found, they should be solved in a timely manner.

Noise and odor are precursors to abnormal operation and malfunction of electric motors. It is necessary to promptly identify and eliminate the cause, otherwise it will delay the timing, expand the fault, and lead to a major accident of burning the motor.

6Ensure the normal operation of the starting equipment

The technical status of the motor starting equipment plays a decisive role in the normal starting of the motor. Otherwise, it is easy to burn out the motor before it enters normal working mode. Practice has proven that the vast majority of reasons for burning out electric motors are related to the starting equipment.

The maintenance of starting equipment mainly involves cleaning and fastening. Unclean contactor contacts can increase contact resistance, causing heating and burning of the contacts, resulting in phase loss and burning of the motor. The rust and dust accumulation on the iron core of the contactor's suction coil can cause the coil to not be tightly closed, emit strong noise, increase the coil current, burn out the coil, and cause faults.

Electrical control equipment should be placed in a dry, ventilated, and easy to operate location, and regular dust removal should be carried out. All wiring screws should be tightened, and the contact points of the contactor should be checked for good and reliable contact. The mechanical parts should be sensitive and accurate to maintain good technical condition, so as to ensure smooth starting without burning out the motor.
